What Is La Ventura?

On an unassuming block in New York's West Village (yes there is one) is La Ventura. For locals it may be easy to find, for others they have to navigate google maps and weave through the few streets in Manhattan with names as well as numbers.

La Ventura is a blending of the experiences of Ryan Burke and Kenneth McCoy of Ward III and The Rum House, and Chef Peter Lipson who helmed Northern Spy Food Co., and was part of the early Empellón team. Peter also did a six-month stage at Martin Berasategui in San Sebastian, Spain.

La Ventura, as part of Public House Collective, is a place where three minds in the food and beverage world came together to create a restaurant and bar that could service the needs of the neighborhood, which Ryan calls home, but make the journey to it worthwhile for all.

What Will I Eat There?

Does it matter? The concise menu has something for everyone, while that may be cliche, it is true. Who needs endless choices? You've worked hard all day and we want to make dining easy on you, but OK if you must know. 


Olives. Olives? Yes, that's right, but not any old olives, these are marinated in Chef Peter's own creation combining Maggi (the secret liquid seasoning that originated in Switzerland in the late 19th century) with other herbs and spices. 


And peanuts, or shall we say Fried Peanuts, given to you in a bag, kinda like at a baseball game, where the skins are lightly crispy, and of course salted for addiction purposes (no shells.) 


Or Crudo aka Mediterranean sashimi, or ceviche by any other name, here with Yellowfin Tuna, the thick pieces bathe in a black tea and soy broth; like us, it's bright and acidic. 


Getting down how about Spare Ribs, lathered in Mezcal & Sweet Chili. Getting down further a Hot Chicken Sandwich, you deserve it on a plate and not having to wait on line for it, and also, with a proper cocktail. Oh and our burger is made with lamb, and our vongole has fettuccine and poblano peppers.


Vegetarian? No worries, start with our vegetarian French Onion Soup and follow with the hearty Jerk Sunchoke Kababs—at our place even the vegetables have spunk.  We have fish and meat, but they're surprises. 


For dessert have a signature Popsicle, just for fun, or Mascarpone Cheesecake, just because.

Cocktails? La Ventura is brought by the owners of Ward III and Rum House, did we not say that earlier? Yes, there's wine (with some great value by the bottle) and beer too

What's the Look and Feel?

Casual West Village vibe. Come in Gucci or Dr. Martens, you'll be fine. Come in a group or on a date. Mingle at the bar, or sit at a table. We have these cute little round tables the size of an LP in our bar area that are perfect for "getting to know you" moments. If you know what an LP is you've lived in the Village for a looong time.

Once you've ventured to us, you won't look back (pun intended).
